Thanks for reminding us that the Nazis used subterfuge and deception to attack a German-speaking area the border area with Poland in Upper Silesia SGT John " Mac " McConnell in August 1939.
They had marched unopposed into Austria during the Anschluss in March 1938 and then on "September 30, 1938, Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, French Premier Edouard Daladier, and British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain signed the Munich Pact, which sealed the fate of Czechoslovakia, virtually handing it over to Germany in the name of peace."
The western nations were complicit in expansion of Hitler's Germany.

SSG (Join to see) - this was back in the days when the French had colonies in Africa and Southeast Asia. Since they had colonies and had been expanding their empire the French leader probably didn't mind Germany reuniting German speaking areas of the former Austro Hungarian empire which fell apart after WWI.

LTC Stephen F. - You may very well be correct. My thought process was in remembering that Germany didn't exactly stop at Poland...

As they are with Putin's Russia and Khamenei's Iran today; and the results of both will be the same.

Britain was not ready for war in 1938. Had the UK declared war, she'd have been on her own with possibly France as an enemy. Remember that Japan, Italy and Russia were German allies in 1938. So "appeasement" as an action and term has to be taken with a grain of salt. While Britain had the world's largest/most powerful Navy, her army was flung too wide throughout the empire and her air was many moons away from the modernization it needed.
France? Hard to say why they moved in the direction they did. Iran? The middle East is a European non-starter. They get most/all of their fuel from the EU. The average European couldn't tell you who Iran is or where they are. Putin? A European tool. Germany has him under control.
