Got to familiarize with the STEN gun at the SF weapons course at Fort Bragg, NC during the summer of 1970. I thought it was a hunk of junk.

I also encountered the Sten at Ft Bragg, in 1967. And it is a hunk of junk by modern standards, but it was cheap & easy to make, so it was very popular with unconventional forces in WW II, such as the French Maquis.

You’re absolutely correct, 1LT Voyle Smith. However, we also familiarized with other cheaply made (stamped metal) submachine guns, such as the Danish Madsen M50, and I thought it to be a better weapon overall. Granted, it was produced post WWII.
