Thank you CW5 Jack Cardwell . Good informative article to the life choice I made 42 years ago. My only regret, they took me off the boats when they gave me my commission. But, it was definitely worth it. My last two jobs, I was responsible for the entire damage control organization on a 22,000 ton ship with 1500 personnel. The submarine qualification process was key in my success.

CW5 Jack Cardwell - What's not to like? Less time at sea and more money. Better port calls. More port calls. And contrary to popular belief, all vessels give you the same amount of personal space. Sailors on carriers don't have more stuff than sub sailors. Also better safety. Combat Infantry Badge is optional. Submarine Dolphins are mandatory. EVERYONE has to get them.

Great article. Submariners are a breed apart. I appreciate their work as I wouldn’t want to do it.
