During the interim a portion of the Fl. purchase in SE Louisiana refused to capitulate and become part of the U.S. The "Florida Parishes" in Louisiana were finally brought to heel by threatened military action against the government in Baton Rouge.

Thanks for reminding us about the Florida Purchase Treaty when Spain agreed to cede the remainder of its old province of Florida to the United States in 1819 TSgt Joe C.. In hindsight it is interesting that this purchase was 16 or so years after Louisiana Purchase from France in 1803.
France was eager to cede territory during the Napoleonic wars while Spain was eager to sell the land in the post-Napoleonic-war period.
