SSG Michael Hartsfield I tend to, at the most, just scan what Donald Trump tends to say.
I am thankful that our Lord and Savior is in absolute control of everything that exists and upholds existence by His Word. He is not dependent on political hopefuls or Presidents or Kings.
I have observed political figures use rhetoric to pander to constituencies and then turn their backs on some of them once they gain the office they have vied to get.
It is terribly sad when somebody who couldn't point to a text in the Bible in previous public appearances now claims that he would expand the cause of Christ in this nation.
God does need the help of any man or woman. He is all-sufficient in Himself. He guides and directs us to help us grow but is not dependent on us. On the other hand we are utterly dependent on Him.

I agree with what you have written, LTCOL Stephen Ford, and it does amuse me that Trump seems to be pandering constantly in his campaign yet at the end of the day does not seem to know how to get along with people. I believe that personal integrity, being good to one's word, is the most important presidential qualifier but also people skills with ability to compromise are also important. I view Trump as some sort of poser who really is not about making a real bid for the presidency as he is about getting his pockets lined with more gold. I think Trump's greatest motivator is his own wallet but I obviously can not know for sure.

While all politicians pander to some degree, Trump has really taken it to another level. He knows what issues each group is worried about, and then not only tells them he will fix the problem, but that he will make the negative a positive. He knows that the evangelicals in Iowa have a feeling that their religion is under attack. So instead of just promising to stop the attacks, he tells them they will have power! And he makes absurd claims based upon whatever he thinks bothers them.

Evangelicals don't like the Happy Holidays greeting? No problem! When he is president, he will make the stores say Merry Christmas! Of course, he doesn't say how he will do that. Will he call in the CEOs of all the stores and order them to have their cashiers say Merry Christmas? Pass a law banning Happy Holidays? What other "power" will the christians have that they don't have now?

People in your base concerned about illegal immigration from Mexico? Don't just say you'll build a wall. Say it will be the biggest, grandest wall in all the world! And don't worry about the billion dollars it will cost--I'll make the Mexicans pay for it!! Worried about ISIS! I'll bomb the shit out of them!! Hmm, how come nobody thought of that before? Because they're not as smart as me!!

It goes on and on, each claim carefully tailored to target the audience he's addressing. And each promise so big as to excite the crowd. And so vague and lacking in details as to prevent criticism or analysis. Ask Trump how he will do any of these things and the answer is the same. Because he's super intelligent and everyone loves him and will do what he says. It is comical in its own way.

Reminds me of when Trump came to Tampa during the housing boom to announce a new Trump Towers condo project. He had a big press conference, said it would be the most amazing building outside of NYC, and everything would be of the absolute highest quality because he would guarantee it, as his name epitomizes the best. Three years later when the building project is shut down with the building not half built, the builder bankrupt, and the buyers deposits lost, people turned to Trump to make things right. His response? I had nothing to do with those shoddy builders. They just paid me to use my name. But if I had built it, it would be finished on time and beautiful, because I'm the best!

Funny how he didn't make that small detail public when he came to Tampa to sell condo units. Trumps all about selling a fantasy.

That's so foreign to me (I was a military brat as a child, so no long-term community other than the armed forces). I'd want to know if I was being hypocritical by accident; I have real trouble imagining doing so on purpose. Thanks for trying; this is interesting stuff for me.

SPC Duncan Koebrich - After working recruiting and reading about the man, my feeling is that the man is a salesman, pure and simple. He loves the deal, the close, the sale. And he will do anything to get it, he doesn't care if it's bald face lying, he will tell you what he thinks you want to hear. If Trump were a Car Salesman and you said you wanted a car to save you money on gas, he'd walk to over to a Humvee and tell you it gets 100 MPG with a straight face. You can trust him, he'll make you a deal!

And once he makes the deal and gets your money/vote, he'll forget all about you and move to the next customer. Hell, I've read at least one article about him buying the Plaza Hotel in NYC during the 1980's. He wanted it so badly that he outbid everyone else....and then lost it when he went bankrupt, mostly because he couldn't afford to keep it. But he wanted that deal and that was all he cared about.

SPC Duncan Koebrich - I think it is his ego that drives him. He clearly wants control and power and who is more powerful than the President of the USA.

Here is a "magic" bullet to shut him down.....ask him HOW he intends to do that. He loves coming up with these over the top claims, but when asked "how", he deflects, changes subject, and when he actually does answer, it doesn't make any sense at all. How can you associate a religion with this country, when it's been clearly stated the separation between church and state? No federal or state government should recognize this, unless you're telling those who are not of the faith where to go, and that's fine when you will NOT be reelected, when you'll spend more time in court than actually helping the populace. Keep "In God We Trust". It doesn't specify what God, so you can make it your own, but you also have those who have no faith at all....call them lesser American's and just stomp over their rights too? Some are vets and serving SM's. They can't be respected? This won't end well for Trump when reality hits, or the people who were believers actually see what he's been for decades.

COL Ted Mc - Sir if you can make a bombastic claim that you're gonna build a wall, a magnificent wall, and have Mexico pay for it, the public deserves to know how. If you can stand on a stage and continue that claim in a debate fourm, the public deserves to know how. In this case, he cannot do it. He won't do it. You have a treaty that would stop it, you have personal land that would stop it or at least slow it down, so how are you going to do it? If you can make a claim then back it up. Obama was asked how he planned on doing some of the things he did (ending the wars and closing GITMO as ex). And he gave examples. They didn't go as planned, but he gave an outline of what he wanted to do and how. At the same time neither Obama or any other sensible candidate would come out and say what Trump IS saying. Cruz says he wants this, he has a basic outline that is plausible to see his idea work. Clinton the same, Rubio. Same. It might be total lies, but they're "workable" lies, not "I'm gonna do X,Y,Z, and they're going to like it". No one does that but Trump

Obama's "plan" to end the wars was "cut and run". Thanks to that we have ISIS in Iraq.
Obama's plan to close GITMO was what? He's been "planning" to close GITMO for 7 years and it is still open. Charles Krauthammer recently said Obama's "plan" to close GITMO has been rubbish from the beginning. He made a promise to close it when he was running for office and had no clue how to do it and still doesn't.

LTC (Join to see) - If you declare "Mission Complete" what else is there to do but leave or at least prepare for it. The Iraqi government wanted us out so they could settle old scores and it backfired. We offered many times to have a stabilization force stay, but they said no. So who's fault is ISIS really? Did we give them training? Did we give them equipment? Did we offer to stick around to make sure the transition was smoother? All of those are YES, so the Iraqi government should take that on the chin and own up to it. Afghanistan was damn near the same way until the new President came in and agreed. So how do you propose we stick around when a sovereign government (we put in) said hit the bricks? You will leave, and what comes next you'll deal with if needed. In this case we were needed unfortunately. GITMO was a plan that had so many roadblocks it sounded "ideal" but didn't have the support on either side to make it happen. Hell I'm not the smartest and knew that wasn't going to happen. But even with Obama wanting to close GITMO, he wasn't planning on making Cuba pay for it. He wasn't talking reckless in his desires. Hell None of the current crop of candidates save one is really talking reckless, and all have ideas that can be worked. Not saying they'll be successful, but the chance is there.
