Announcing a drawdown is a horrible mistake. We deserted the Vietnamese in 1975 after Vietnamization was rushed. We abandoned Iraq after we rushed training of the Iraqi Army and then we have incrementally ramped back up our involvement in Iraq. We declared a date certain to back out of Afghanistan and then had to walk back from that decision SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL.
It is never a good idea to announce a drawdown. One day I hope this nation will realize the value of absolute war which is the only way to actually terminate conflict.

It sounds like to me that Gen. Cleveland is describing the "Vietnamese-zation" of the war, this time by the Afghans, and he is correct to say that the level of casualties breaks the back of most militaries and incorrect to add just not our heroic Afghan allies who can overcome all adversity.

Maj Marty Hogan If you do not do a good job, it needs to be done again.
The U S has failed to reform / reset most of the countries we have bleed for. We bleed and contribute - to little avail. Then 'they' become smart and shun us or our exports!
