I read hear and their about it in old world text book encyclopedias that my grandparents had. Needless to say I was being polished and educated by my grandmother while my mom was at work. Can't say I really obsorbed everything, more or less just pretended to read lol... but I do remember some things. And there was a few mentions of the wars over Iceland.

Marines were there from 1941 to 1942 to prevent the Germans from being able to operate unabated against the convoys from the US.

LTC Trent Klug - true. It would probably also be a prime space for refueling air crafts if needed.

And of course the Greenland-Iceland-UK ("GIUK") gap was prime submarine warfare territory during the Cold War.
