Woman unable to hear men's voices due to rare condition, report says

When I am alone or focused on a task, my ears go into a low power mode. They only ‘hear’ after being signaled someoneis speaking to me, thereby saving energy.

Young people talk faster than my ears listen. I ask them to speak more slowly.

Mary Ann simply has to be in the same room as me and she needs to have my attention before she starts to talk.
