Some coins I picked up last week down at Fort Cambell for the Week of Eagles. The one on the left was a fund raiser for the 101st Airborne. the one in the middle was form my twin brother's battalion commander, 1/327th Infantry and the one on the left if from the commander of the 716th Military Police Battalion, the worlds most high decorated MP Bn. Thank you my friend SFC William Farrell for posting an image of the coins you were able to purchase when you and your twin brother visited Fort Campbell

You can purchase honor coins now? Yeesh, kind of cheapens them somehow. Anyway, blessed independence day to you and yours.

SSG Samuel Kermon - No, the one of the left was a fund raiser for the 101st, the other two were presented to me by the battalion commanders.

These are “Totally Awesome” SFC William Farrell!
The 101st Air Assault ‘performed’ at my AIT graduation in 1984. Very Impressive to see them repel out of an Apache!

That one is from my brother's unit in Vietnam, his company commander, CPT Martin Kiskanen, a West Point grad was killed when a Chinook was shot down along with most of his squad. All chances are my brother would have been on the bird with them had he not been medevacced out earlier Lt Col Charlie Brown

1st BDE of the 101 has a black club on their helmets for ID. 2nd has a black heart. One battalion of 3rd technically has a black spade, but you see the entire BDE associated with a Japanese torii more often.

It is not at all uncommon for those units to create their challenge coin in that shape. I have a couple heart coins from my time in the 2nd BDE.

Lt Col Charlie Brown - Thats exactly how I look at it Charlie. I was 18 and with aviation units in Nam and kept on putting in for transfer to a full time door gunner position. The two times I got transferred to different aviation units, i thought my transfer came through. While I did fly gunner occasionally, it was not a full time job by any means. Someone was trying to keep this young and stupid 18 year old kid alive!
