☞Well, it’s that time of year again... so... Buttermilk Junction wishes all Happy National Accordion Month!
☞…And -- Wait for it… We also wish everyone a “Happy‽” National Migraine Headache Month!
☞Today, June 1, is the first day of National Accordion Awareness Month, which was established in 1989 to help spread the word about the resurgence of the popularity of accordions, & “to educate the general public about the various types of squeeze-boxes.”
☞It is a curiously-interesting coincidence that the month of June happens to both National Accordion Awareness Month & National Migraine Headache Awareness Month… but maybe we shouldn’t have mentioned that -- because... because there couldn’t possibly be any connection between accordions & headaches! Wink, wink… nudge, nudge… say no more!
☞Types of squeeze-boxes recognized during National Accordion Month include piano accordions, the various types of chromatic & diatonic button accordions, & the various types of concertinas, flutinas, melodeons, harmoniums bandoneóns, et cætera.
☞The origin of the accordion can be traced to Germany where the first button accordions appeared in the early 1820s & the first concertinas made their appearance in the late 1820s.
☞The word “accordion,” is derived from the 19th-Century German word “akkordion” or “akkordeon,” & is variously spelled “accordion,” “accordian,” “accordeon,” & “accordéon.” Opinions differ as to the proper spelling, & this has become the subject of much disagreement & debate; however, “accordion” seems to be the preferred spelling by a slight majority.
☞“Squeeze-box” is a colloquial expression referring to any musical instrument of the general class of hand-held, bellows-driven, free-reed ærophones such as accordions & concertinas, & so on, & so forth.

My high school friend who stuck with the lessons now plays in Nashville with the number one Elvis impersonator, Dwight Eisenhower. And he also travels with a Tribute to Heart. Guess I should have skeptical going but at the time I thought 4 ye wars was enough
