Okay, I don't usually watch many War Channels... but tonight I watched one called: Warframes - on YouTube. I watched it because when I was in Eighth Grade one of my Classmates Fathers came in and talked about belonging to a World War Special Operations group called: Merrill's Marauders.
In that talk, he said that he had never lost anyone on a mission, but that like 10% of the guys died in Training. I thought that was incredible that your training could be more dangerous than actual Combat.
So this short video was about a guy named : LT John George. Who ordered his old Winchester Hunting Rifle sent to Guadalcanal ...specifically to hunt enemy snipers. Everyone laughed at his "toy" rifle, but he killed all 11 snipers of the enemy. I won't give it all away, but man oh man, I hope he got a ton of Medals.
He used math, hunting techniques, and a rifle that he trusted for hitting things 300 yards away. Oh, and a 2.5 power scope! No Spotter.
The reason I watched is because that same guy was tasked after pulling of that incredible feat in January of 1943, in just three days- to form up a Unit of 40 guys and teach them his techniques.
So where did they assign the Lieutenant after that? Merrill's Marauders ! He wrote a book called: "Shots in Anger." I will have to read that one.
God Bless him and all the lives he saved.

My Canadians Cree Indian Wife's Great-Great grandfather was Canadian's #2 Sniper in World War 1 with 115 Confirmed kills.
Corporal Henry Norwest used the Ross rifle, a Canadian-made, straight-pull, .303-calibre rifle, during his time as an elite sniper in the First World War.
Details of the Rifle
Model: Norwest used a Ross Mk III rifle, often fitted with American-made 5.2x Warner & Swasey Model of 1913 telescopic sights for sniping. Some accounts indicate he also used the rifle with just iron sights.
Reputation: The Ross rifle had a mixed reputation during the war. While highly accurate and a favorite among skilled marksmen like Norwest and Francis Pegahmagabow who took meticulous care of their weapons, it was considered less durable and more complex for general trench warfare compared to the British Lee-Enfield.
History: Norwest used three different rifles during the war. One of the remaining rifles he used is currently on display at The Military Museums in Calgary, Alberta, brought back to Canada by his spotter. The rifle he was carrying when he was killed by an enemy sniper in August 1918 was rumored to have been taken as a trophy by the German marksman.
Here I was at a 2018 November 11 Remembrance Day.

Hey Everybody, it was my Classmates Father that was in Merrill's Marauders. Don't know why I forgot to type in "father." Since, well, none of my 12 and 13 year old Classmates were in WW II> LOL
