August 1,1941 The first jeep rolled off the assembly line. Willys Truck Company was the first company to create a jeep. During World War I, the U.S. Army needed a fast, lightweight all-terrain vehicle. In 1940, the Army called on the automotive companies to create a working prototype (fitting army specifications) in forty-nine days. Willys Truck Company was the first company to create the right prototype. The new vehicle was nicknamed “the Jeep.” General Dwight D. Eisenhower said that America could not have won World War II without it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Willys_MB http://www.allpar.com/history/bantam-jeep.html

TSgt Joe C., I love Bill Mauldin. My uncle served with him in WWII and he was a friend of the family.

I had a friend that was in the Korean War, and he bought one from surplus when he got out. They gave him a good Jeep to run and a wrecked one for parts for a ridiculously low price, and they shipped them home for him to boot.
