James Robert McMahon, Jr. (born August 21, 1959) is a former American football player. He played college football at Brigham Young University, where he was a two-time All-American (1980, 1981) and later in the professional ranks with the Chicago Bears, San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and Green Bay Packers. He won two Super Bowl titles, the first with the Bears in Super Bowl XX where he was the starting quarterback, and the second with their rivals, the Green Bay Packers, in Super Bowl XXXI where he was a backup to Brett Favre. Both Super Bowls were against the New England Patriots. McMahon was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1998.

Thank you my friend Maj Marty Hogan for making us aware that August 21 is the anniversary of the birth of former American football quarterback James Robert McMahon, Jr. who played professional football with the Chicago Bears, San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and Green Bay Packers and won two Super Bowl titles.
Unfortunately he has early onset- dementia which he has struggled with.

Mac attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah from 1977-1981 and played quarterback for their football team. In '80 and '81 he was an All American and led the nation in passing and total offense. While playing college football he set 71 NCAA records. Jim played in the NFL for fifteen years for seven different teams: Chicago Bears, San Diego Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles, Minnesota Vikings, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, & Green Bay Packers. Jim led the Chicago Bears to Super Bowl XX victory over the New England Patriots in 1986.
Jim was also a member of Super Bowl XXXI Champion Packers in 1997. Today he is still one of Chicago's favorite sports heroes. In 1998 Jimbo was inducted into the Collegiate Football Hall of Fame. He's been married to his wife Nancy for sixteen years; they have four children. Jim hosts a golf tournament in Phoenix, Arizona for Ronald McDonald House. He is active in a number of charities, Juvenile Diabetes Fund, Society for the Prevention of Blindness, March of Dimes, National Spokesperson for Think First Foundation for Children. In the spring of 2002 he opened his latest restaurant venture now called McMahon's Steakhouse near his home in the Chicago suburb of Glenview, Illinois. Since retiring from football he spends most of his time with his family and playing golf.

1. Known as much for being injury-prone and clashing with Bears then-head coach Mike Ditka than for his quarterbacking ability during his NFL days.
2. Wore headbands under his helmet. Once wore a headband with the name "Rozelle" written on his forehead to irk then-NFL commissioner Pete Rozelle, who fined him for wearing a Adidas headband with the Adidas name and logo clearly showing, which is prohibited. McMahon had an endorsement contract with Adidas at the time.
3. His "wild-eyed appearance" was due to an accident at 6 years of age. He was trying to untie a knot in a toy gun holster with a fork when it slipped and severed his left eye. The injury left his eyes extremely sensitive to light and he had to wear dark glasses or sunglasses for medical reasons. Wore contact lenses while playing.
4. Quarterback for Chicago Bears (1982-1988), San Diego Chargers (1989), Philadelphia Eagles (1990-1992), Minnesota Vikings (1993), Arizona Cardinals (1994) and Green Bay Packers (1995-1996).
