14-15 March 1951: ROK and U.S. troops liberated Seoul for the fourth and last time during the Korean War. Called Operation Ripper, this UN offensive was intended to push NKPA and CCF forces north of the 38th Parallel.

Conceived by Eighth Army commander Lt. Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway, the operation kicked off on 6 March with the largest artillery bombardment of the Korean War. The 25th Div. quickly crossed the Han River and established a beachhead. Farther east, the U.S. IX Corps reached its first phase line on 11 March. Three days later, assault units pushed on to their next phase line. That night, the ROK 1st Inf. Div. and U.S. 3d Inf. Div. liberated Seoul.

When we go to war, all we should be concerned about is total victory, and our president should not let the politicians be involved to place restrictions on what we can do or not do. Korea was a learning curve so to speak, as we had no battle hardened troops from the beginning, as time went on they learned how to engage the enemy. Our Air Force did a good job, in turning back the enemy. BUT now we have a crazed ruler in North Korea that we have to deal with. If war starts with China, you know that North Korea will join in the fight, and possibly Russia. There is no substitute for VICTORY, and I mean TOTAL VICTORY.

If they start something it will likely endup with a lot of Nuclear missiles in flight, leading to the death of most of the earth's beings and plant life.

I hope that they are not dumb enough to start a nuclear war.

The takeover of Ch'unch'on marked the last and major ground objective for Operation Ripper. 672 U.S. Army-men and 41 Air Force pilots were killed in the operation. Let's take a moment to remember our fallen heroes from this operation to recapture Seoul during the Korean War.

Great share Dale.
