My wife and I put flowers on 20 graves, 4 military veterans, one police veteran, and the rest civilian relatives.

We have two National Cemeteries here in Springfield, the old one is one of only two with both Union and Confederate dead. They are separated by a low stone wall.
We help every year at the new one. We have a son there, and the slot just to his left has been vacated, I'm sure we will end up there.

I do not know, probably a family wanted the remains closer to home. I cannot reserve the slot, but they do not fill open singles until the cemetery is running out of room, so it is highly likely to be available for us. A request can only be made after a death, not before.
