I had to laugh. Butter was too expensive for us too, but Mom had very few requests from Dad, and butter was one of them. So even tho it was a luxury...Mom got her way. So maybe we didn't get new clothes, but we got butter for my Mom's home cooked loaves of bread she made every other day. And hot bread coming out of the oven, then slathered with butter ....oh yeah. Except for the Soda bread loaf she made for her, my Dad, and my brother in Law...who loved that stuff. Yech.

I can tell you the Irish were right with you about butter. Not so much on the four hundred spices. LOL I thought salt and pepper were spices until I spent the night at the Perriandri and DiGregarrio's houses. (Sp?)
