Was tasked to figure out where we can get some customized reserved parking signs to replace the missing and out-of-date ones; and I am not having much luck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

When I ask my sons for a vendor, they always refer me to Amazon.
@SGT Kyler Preston That is where my mini-license plate came from.

You know Chuck, asking what pocket knife people have, might be a good subject. I carry this key chain knife, it opens all my mail, and cut into the hard plastics wrapping when I buy something.

if it's not on amazon it doesn't already exist, and you need to design it yourself.

Did you check with your Department of Public Works on your installation? They are the ones that will take care of official signage (assuming it's officially designated reserved parking and not 'unit level determined').

SGT(P) (Join to see) - Hmmm... I looked-up the information for DPW at JBLW* for signage, but read on the website that "PW does not fabricate signs for squadrons or companies".

You could contact them to see if there are exceptions or if they have recommendations.

Who decides on parking in a unit area, if not the unit CO?

MAJ Ronnie Reams - It depends, but usually the only 'official' reserved parking spaces are decided by the installation commander or a designated representative. That's why you have to look up what the installation regulation/policies are.

Yes, in some installations that authority is delegated down to certain commanders, but on most installations the unit has to send a request up to the installation.

For example, while the Army doesn't have specific service-level guidance, the Air Force does specifically state that only the installation commander has the authority, but they can delegate it down to vice commanders, mission support commanders or other group commanders*.

'Official' reserved parking brings with it requirements by the installation to upkeep the signage, the ability to enforce by law enforcement, etc.

'Unoffical' reserved parking spots are just that - unofficial. If the unit commander falls into the gray area (not authorized, but not prohibited either), then they absolutely could do designated parking for spaces that are solely under their control.

Sure, if in the gray area, the commander can throw up a "reserved for CO" sign in the spot closest to their office in the communal parking lot, but the only enforcement mechanism they have is influence, not regulatory. He'll have a lot of influence over the individuals in the unit they are commanding, but much less to those outside the unit.
