As a newly minted O-1 I have no problem with the term, but some of my fellow ENS/LTs have been scolded for using it. I never considered the term a pejorative when I was enlisted and I still don't now that I'm on the officer side. I always thought it was sort of a rite of passage that goes along with being a new Officer. Am I missing something? Do you consider the term disrespectful or demeaning?

I would say those service members are being over sensitive and need their safe space lol

Make sure to bring the coloring books and only primary color crayons so we don't offend those of differing shades of those colors.

I am of the opinion that if you are offended by that term, then perhaps you need to find another line of work. One of my favorites is "Spot" for new warrants. The fact that many of them were former enlisted allows for them to have thicker skin and not get so offended.

I used to ask my LT's this.. See this Dot LT? That's a smart dot and you don't have any..lol They understood the humor at least.. I know most if not all had way more education than I did..
SFC Jason Paxton. When I received the ribbing on becoming a warrant by my NCO's, I always let them know I had been an NCO for a time and as Dirty Harry said "you got to know your limitations".. LOL

I used to tell people (civilians) that the number of squares indicated how many times that person had been passed-over for promotion.

it took 16 months and 11 days for my bar to turn from gold to silver. I was very happy to see the change, but I will always remember those days.

SMSgt Lawrence McCarter - My "Female" Enswine was noted for Butting Heads with Me. But I think she Enjoyed Showing Up this Old Salty Dog on the COMSPAWARSYSCOM Distance Runners Club. I didn't Have Much Competition but the Female LTJG and ENS left me in the Dirt. Smart Ass Wenches! LOL!

PO3 Bob McCord - Thanks for the Reminder, The "George" Youngest Most Inexperienced Enswine. The Only Guy the Bull Enswine can Pick On. usually the George and if there wasn't a George the Bull was responsible for the Ship's Mascot. Also remember the George on the California CGN-36 Was required to Dress Like a Viking and stand above the SUBROC Magazine Holding a Set of Reins connected to Both Forward Corners of the Magazine. Pretty Crappy Job having to Constantly Polish that Huge Wooden Golden Bear that was our Mascot on Loan from the Ronny Reagan Library.

Not at all disrespectful or demeaning. It is what it is. In fact, as a former enlisted soldier, I have fond memories of literally crossing the street at Fort Sam Houston, just to salute any "Butter Bar" observed carrying books in their right hand. Hahaha

I'm Mosquito Wings so I say get over it.
A Captain is a Double Lieutenant, there's nicknames for everything and we jab each other.

Lance Corporals (LCpl) have landing gear on their mosquito wings. Never heard the Double Lieutenant, that's a good one. Heard "railroad tracks" a lot though.

Not really. I had 27 years of being an NCO behind me. I know what my goal is and it doesn't have much to do with anyone's opinion of me.

Maj Marty Hogan Butterbar? Pfft I'm a Petty Officer Let Me Emphasize the Word "Petty" I,m a Sailor, You Know what we Call O-1s behind their Backs "Enswine" You Know Naval Tradition? Nothing Lower than the "George" Most Jr Ensign. He is Charged with Protecting the Ships Mascot and is Generally Treated Like Dirt. Now the "Bull" the Most Senior Ensign is Treated with some Small Degree of Dignity. I Can't Remember if it was the Bull or the George that had to Dress as a Viking Grab Some Reins attached to the ASROC Magazine and Ride the California into Home Port standing atop the Magazine in Warm Weather. Never Seen LTJGs O-2 Treated Particularly Nice Either. I've Seen on More than One Occasion the JG told to be Quiet by the Skipper because He was Asking the Professionals "Senior Enlisted" (E-6 and above) a Question.
