To this day, if I have a surfeit of stuff in my hands as I need to: say open a door, I will place some of it between my knees as I was told to do with my helmet while putting my gas mask on. Fortunately I'd had experiences from the altitude chamber, so keeping the mask on as long as they'd let me helped!

Still remember the gas mask, gas hut experience, did wonders clearing up my smoker’s lungs, also remember we fired the 3.5 rocket launcher at Ft.Lewis ,the range featured some old locomotives ,this was done wearing your gas mask, maybe they were worried about back blast effects, anyway my mask was not fitted with corrective lens,so suspect my round landed in British Columbia, Welcome Home Brothers

CSM Charles Hayden I remember the gas chamber well! Name, rank, serial number and unit one at a time until everyone said theirs. Then they told us to don and clear the mask. It didn't matter on mine. I think the filters were out of date because the gas kept coming inside the mask and into my lungs.
