Or here's an idea! Let's stop taxing the American people and start taxing the countries for every refugee and immigrant that comes into our country. It's not like we don't know where most of them come from. I know a lot of immigrants like Brazilians go to Italy to get citizen ship there and then get a 30 day visitors visa to come here and then end up staying! So there you go, we could tax two countries, revert the responsibility back to the countries themselves. Put it back on the main to take care of there's own so they don't have to pay us to do it.

Great idea. An immigration tax paid by the country the individual is immigrating from. Make it stiff enough to pay for benefits received from the host country too!

The US Army Corps of Engineers was tasked during the Bush administration to start building a wall. It was in various forms, depending on the geography/topography. In some places is was virtual (supposed to be anyway). The progress was stopped shortly after Bush left office.

Remember things like that well. Spent a couple of years at Las Pulgas myself as a Plt Sgt and then Co Gy before going to San Onofre for Inf. Plt Sgt Course. They'd cut across the base to get around the San Onofre checkpoint. Used to see them all the time when running the ridge behind the camp. Think they usually headed NE around Las Flores or near Pulgas Canyon Rd and then NW till past the checkpoint. Many camped near Pulgas Lake to regroup. Gang bangers were coming in near San Clemente gate also. One came aboard and killed a Cpl over a woman in NCO housing up the hill from SNCO housing up there. He waited outside and shot, stabbed, choked and whatever else to him right on his doorstep. His wife set him up and I never knew how it turned out. I gave a SNCO friend a ride to pick up his child at a babysitter and the whole block was barricaded by FBI/NIS/CID. Also while at Pulgas a SOG at 11th Mar was a Sgt from our unit right after we got the 9 mm's. He had his piece loaded and locked per SOP. Then laid it down so someone could give him a blouse before donning war belt for guard mount on a slow Sunday. Bad move because a sentry picked it up and decided to play cops and robbers with another. Hit him center mass while his girlfriend in guard shack watched him slide down the wall and die. I transferred out to 11th MEU so never knew but I think they all did hard time. These were both around 88 or so.

no never noticed one but wasn't crazy about all the traffic in general, but thanks for sharing it, my trips north of san clemente were few, took the kids to Disneyland in 89 when they were young and we got bold once, thought we'd go farther north but made it to long beach maybe, started seeing oil rigs and getting this feeling of getting close to "the hood", I wasn't packing so opted to about face, they had been shooting folks in road rage on the 405 about that time and I lost the desire to go farther, a few were killed in the shootings and I didn't want to become a statistic, some had bumper stickers like "honk if you're reloading" and "don't shoot, I'll speed up", I'm from the sticks so metro is not for me, lots of money in Orange County though for sure, same as La Jolla down south, best wishes

We have more physical barriers, technology and border patrol agents guarding the border than ever before in the history of this nation. Despite that, the border is not really any more secure than it was decades ago... despite all that, the fact remains that if there is work here in the US, desperate people will find a way to do that work. If there is a demand from illegal drugs, cartels will find a way to supply that demand. If we want to solve the problem we need to create the means by which all those workers can enter the country legally, make it so that Americans are willing to work those jobs by raising the pay and benefits of those positions, and/or make the risk of hiring illegal workers unacceptable to business. Building more walls and hiring more agents is nothing more than a jobs program that produces nothing, if we are going to spend billions on a job program lets rebuild and add infrastructure.

That wall is the dumbest idea in government history. They already dig tunnels, so how deep are you going to bury that wall? 20 feet, 100? Say you do do a 100. They'll simply dig 110. Or they'll rent a rowboat and row around the end of it, unless what, you're gonna put it 20 miles out to sea? Even if you did, they'd simply row 21 miles. You have a good point, if the wall were the only "barrier" employed. To be effective, any wall would have to be integrated into an overall program; e.g., physical barriers, patrols, economic considerations, intel, etc.

Simple answer, make it UNattractive to be here illegally. Really crack down on those who hire them (no job, no cash, no food... no life here, go home!) Catch them, deal with them swiftly and firmly. A physical wall isn't the answer (tunnel under it, go to Canada and cross in just about anywhere, get a boat and row around the wall, get a tourist visa and just don't leave etc. etc.) , a strong "administrative wall" can do so much more so much more cheaply. But do we as a nation of "bleeding hearts" have the will to really accomplish anything? I am not sure from all I see these days.

How little you really know. There are those... Citizens... that suffer terribly and cannot get the help they need, and this ILLEGAL immigrants get it all handed to them with even armies of people who help them get things they have no right to get.
