Is anyone a member of the National Infantry Association (I am hoping I can get put in for the Order of St. Maurice)?

Part of me is actually hoping this is a joke. As an E-5, it is doubtful you have made "significant contributions" to the Infantry. If you had, then someone in your battalion would have noticed and recommended you for the award. It normally takes an Infantry NCO successfully completing a tour as a Platoon Sergeant or higher to meet the criteria for the award. Asking random strangers to submit you for an award that requires a write up on your professionalism, character, and performance is...well...to be honest...it shows a lack of class.

I Hold the Order of Saint Maurice and it is not something that you ask for, especially from strangers that have never served with you. Honestly son, if I had not been put in for it by the Infantrymen I worked for, who saw what I did each day and sent in a strong recommendation it would not have the meaning that it has for me. The Order is for lack of a better way to explain it, a lifetime achievement award. IF you were to get someone that does not know you never served a day with you and means nothing to you to put you in, and you would be happy with that, then it would mean very little to you aside from being"The Order of the Humongous Dinner Plate.

WO1 (Join to see) - I seriously think that you have been pegged by SSG Roger Ayscue. Maybe a copy of this discussion thread should be sent to the Infantry Association Awards Committee?

SSG Robert Webster - WO1 (Join to see) Rob, I don't think that needs to be done yet.
I really hope that this young Sergeant learns a lesson and becomes an NCO that makes a significant contribution to the Infantry. I would be proud at some point in the future to find out that he created the most awesome Infantry unit in history. WO1 (Join to see), You checked out my profile, check out SFC (Join to see) and SSG Robert Websters profiles as well. What you will see when you look into the eyes is maturity and love of an institution that goes way past our retirement. My profile photo was taken nearly a decade after my retirement and I am breaking out those old blues at the end of this month for a Military Formal. Garrett, you are on "GO" where you go next is up to you. Please observe the reaction of just three Order Awardees when you ASK for one.

WO1 (Join to see) - I look forward to that. Should you meed advice or guidance I am proud to offer myself as as a mentor, as would ANY CAREER NCO on Rally Point. I point out SGM Erik Marquez as a good source for current advice. Myself and Rob Webster are old Paratroopers that go way back having known each other for years. Tim Springman is a very smart NCO that you will never hear blow his own horn. WO1 (Join to see) you will find that any of us that LOVED the Army, loved our troops. I brag more about the accomplishment of my men than mine.
Son, the offer is on the table. I DO look forward to seeing you grown, accomplish and mature. The Army and indeed the Infantry, for WE are the HEART of any Army, needs leaders that adopt it as a WAY OF LIFE. I stand ready to help you. Change your focus to Men and Mission and the Awards WILL follow...I promise.

Before you mentioned it, I had not heard of the National Infantry Association WO1 (Join to see).
I was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in 1980 so I am not surprised I was not aware of this organization which started in 1994.
I decided to do some basic research and learned the following basic information from their website:
Why Belong to the NIA?
Started by Infantry leadership in 1994, the National Infantry Association is the professional association for Infantrymen and Infantry supporters, . The NIA, chartered as a private, non-profit, fraternal organization, supports the Infantry’s role in the security of our nation; helps Infantrymen build closer affiliations with one another; and helps preserve the Infantry heritage. Your membership promotes the ONLY organization dedicated to supporting the Chief of Infantry and the entire Infantry community. Our increasing membership strength ensures that the Infantry voice will be heard by decision makers. You will share the camaraderie of like-minded soldiers and citizens who believe in maintaining the Infantry spirit, and you can help recognize outstanding Infantrymen through the Order of St. Maurice Award. You will receive the Infantry Bugler magazine, and you will support the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center at Patriot Park, and the educational values associated with it.
How do I benefit?
NIA Chapters – Chapters are the core element of the NIA and are able to help the Infantry soldier on a local level. Various activities may include meetings, picnics and sponsored events.
Awards Program – The Order of Saint Maurice was established to recognize the achievements of deserving Infantrymen and Infantry supporters, and the Shield of Sparta-Heroine of Infantry recognizes a spouse who has contributed significant support to the Infantry. A nominator must be a member of the NIA.
National Infantry Museum – The NIA, through the National Infantry Foundation, supports the National Infantry Museum and Soldier Center at Patriot Park.
Infantry Bugler – a quarterly publication written for Infantrymen and their supporters. This newsmagazine gives every member a platform to communicate with other Infantrymen.
