Some of the first women serving on submarines have been filmed while in the dressing area and showering over the past year. The Navy is still investigating the case and not many details have been released. The incident took place on USS Wyoming (Gold Crew).

So far the perpetrator has only been identified as a second class petty officer (E-5) who works at the Trident Refit Facility at Kings Bay, GA.

There were at least three female officer victims. More details below in the Navy Times article.

Seriously? All those women deserve is the same privacy and respect their male counterparts are getting. This is not how anyone should be acting, military or civilian.

Very disturbing to say the least. Will we ever rid ourselves of twisted mines. It is very sad our young women in uniform must continually look over their shoulder. That they just can't focus on their jobs and have to worry about idots. Hopefully they will fully punish the perpetrators.

Yes MSG (Join to see) MEN are the problem. Actually it is men with the minds of little boys. It is up to the rest of us to bring these children under control and allow women to do their jobs. Women do not need our protection, they need our support in ensuring boys get the message that their idiotic behavior had no place in the military OR society outside the military.

Wow. I agree! No one should have to worry about such criminal activity. The Military needs to make an example of the scum that did this. Whether the person filmed is male or female, to film someone without their consent (especially when in skivvies or less) is the most pathetic and despicable thing one can do to another without actual violence being involved. If the person responsible is actually an NCO, that is even worse, as the NCO is supposed to be the backbone of the military. At least in the Army, it is.

As long as Boys will be allowed to be boys, it will take MEN to make a difference. Thanks for taking a stand among the Men Lt Col (Join to see).

Ok, but don't reverse this into a "women think twice" issue. Act swiftly. Keel haul the MFs who did this this, and send a LOUD AND CLEAR disciplinary message for this type of behavior so it is not repeated.

CMDCM Gene Treants Master Chief, This is disturbing, but sadly not surprising. Why would any service member or shipmate do this to another? The loss or integrity and credibility damages the esprit de corps, unit integrity, and violates many of the values we all served with and under.

Would it be more acceptable if the filming were of a male sailor? For me, no. But when so few women are assigned to such highly coveted billets it seems this issue is exacerbated.

Having investigated sexual assaults, rapes, and child crimes for the Army and worked joint cases with NCIS, I can say this Sailor is in for a, well deserved and earned, rough ride. Career survivability probability is just about pegged out at 0.

Thank you for the post.

I tend to agree SFC Dr. Joseph Finck, BS, MA, DSS. As a CMC I also investigated sexual assaults, rapes, and child abuse cases for the Navy and when founded, the perpetrator was usually not treated very well, even with counseling and treatment.

This case sure does sound like a career ender, but I am not on the investigative team, so will not prejudge. However it is a good thing I am not there to render my opinion.

The second class petty officer who installed the camera and distributed the pictures/film should be shown no mercy and receive the maximum punishment allowable under UCMJ.

Anyone who knew where these pictures were taken and either viewed and/or received the pictures and failed to report should be punished - regardless if you were on the boat or not. This is totally UNSAT.

Worst cause scenario punishment should be the same for everyone (don't take rank from a senior NCO and give a local reprimand to an officer) and best case scenario make it more severe/stricter based on rank. The higher the rank the more responsibility you bear. What do you think?

EDIT: If you were a 'distributer' of the pictures or had more involvement than merely viewing them, then your punishment should be more in my opinion. There are reasons to attach more harsh punishments, so not all punishments would be the same. My intent was if your 'crime' was the same, your punishment should be the same, unless adjusted based on rank, with punishment increasing with rank.

Heck yea, definitely no mercy for him or anyone else who knew it was happening and took no action to correct the wrong. In fact the UCMJ just changed to make sure that that the military could take action against those that distributed pictures/videos of a member without consent.

CSM (Join to see) your reasoning is flawless. As We Progress we face more responsibility to go along with our increased authority. The person who came up with and executed the actual crime is the most responsible and should receive the most, however from there on, punishment should, as you stated fit the crime and paygrade too.

Lets hope the Silent service opens up about this. It is time to gt out and let everyone know no one in the Navy condones this. I don't think Aviation ever really learned the lessons they should have from Tailhook; lets hope Bubbleheads learn from Wyoming.

No I think you are MCPO Gene Treants, I just hope that something doesn't happen in the Infantry and other Combat Arms of the Army where women are now in. Yes, these organization seem to never learn, largely because of the culture that had been fostered over a period of time. I am all for the Espirit of Corps, but when it conflicts with current situation at hand, and is demeaning and degrading to part of the population that is now allowed to take part in it. It is time to change the culture from the top on down, and not pay lip service to it. It just silly if they are doing the job, you are completing the same mission, treat them alike, there should be no race or sex in consideration about someone doing job. The culture in each community shouldn't discriminate or alienate on sex or race either, while one duty the person you are working you just should look as that another person, doing the same as you, trying to help your unit fulfill the mission.

Well I can't say I'm surprised something stupid happened, I am thankful it wasn't something far worse. Hopefully the officers are able to recover some of their dignity and those responsible get the flesh stripped from their backs.

The squids still do floggings right?

Is it me, or does the media seem to have an agenda to prevent women from serving along side or in combat units? ...and I will say a Sub is as likely or even more likely to see combat as any infantryman. The media is on a witch hunt to keep our women out of uniform...just my observation.

My daughter is a Seabee, 100 females to a 900 males, so this hits home.

I do not know if it is media or not in this case. The incident happened almost almost a month before it was reported. However, failure like this is always exciting for any reporter and makes good reading so it will get front page coverage.

Good news for your daughter serving with Seabees. If she does her job well, she will be an accepted part of the unit! These Sailors love people who Can Do their jobs! (Yes, I served with them in Davisville and Antarctica, not to mention Christchurch.)
