Should RallyPoint add an awards section to the profile for both military & civilian members?

Should RallyPoint Web designer consider adding a Section in the Profile for Military Awards for both military personnel and civilian personnel?
Do you think RP members will be honest for the most part and only add those they actually received?
(or)
Do you think some RP members will add awards they didn't actually receive?
(or)
Do you think there is no need for another "love me" section on the profile?
Please vote and provide your thoughts?

One of the worst things a service member can do is to embellish their awards record.
Besides, RP has our DD-214, and nobody could get by with lying about this.

DD-214 usually doesn't have your last award if you received one upon retirement. Unless you submit it later to be added. When I retired, I received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal. The medal, Certificate and such were sent to me a few months after retirement. Do I need it on my DD-214? No not really!!! So I did not send it in to have it included. I know what I received that's all that matters.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - My 214 is not correct. I should have 2 ARCOMs, that were never actually "awarded". I have the forms, signed from top to bottom, and a photocopy of the certificate for 1 one of them. I didn't know anything about them until I was out processing Ord at My ETS. Nobody seemed to care since I was a Medical.

I'd like to see our Rallypoint Ribbons on a Rack. "Trailblazer with Bronze Oak Leaf," "Downvote Recipient - Tenth Award"... and so on. =)

Good idea. Marksmanship badges could become spelling badges- Expert, Sharptyper, and Nawledgable.

Frankly, the down vote is under valued. I gave one once for a lousy post and the recipient was very angry. Why get upset about a down vote?
No, why do my ribbons, awards, decorations matter, or anyones for that matter?

Amen Colonel. Unless it's MOH, DSC Navy Cross, CG Cross, AF Cross, Silver Star, Bronze Star w/a V or a CIB, honestly, who cares?

Uh, why do we need to showcase our ribbon racks?

Wasn't thinking that they would be "showcased" just another part of the profile. Only people who check out your profile would see them.

Like elk during mating season. It's a guy thing. Some women showcase their racks. It's only fair.

That's an interesting thought. Out ribbons and awards are part of the story of our experiences. Every ribbon tells a story. For instance, my first ARCOM was an impact award from COL David Petraeus when I was deployed to Sinai Egypt with 3-504th PIR.

My only ARCOM was a downgraded BSM from ODS.
There were a lot in the works, but as the old saying goes... 1 Aw Shyte, wipes out 100 atta boys.

Nah, too much focus on that stuff elsewhere as is.

I was thinking about this the other day. I would not worry about honesty since RallyPoint already asks about military schools and experience. If service members are not honest with these, they won't be honest with awards. Since we have everything else on our profiles, why not add awards?

And you must have been doing some serious thumbing up today!
COL Mikel J. Burroughs
Hey 2LT Michael Brodka I was doing some serious thumbing up yesterday. Here is the one I owe you. I spent way too much time reading, commenting, and starting a few conversations on Saturday. I'm always amazed at how some of the subjects get a lot of attention and how some members just get breezed over. It must be the day that they post the discussion or the time of day. Some really get a lot of attention and comments and other don't get anything. Just an observation. Thanks for feedback!

I don't see how it makes any difference. It isn't like there are promotion points on the line here. At most, it would be a conversation starter.

I'm middle of the road on the awards section, but spot on for conversation starters and the forgetfulness as we get older. Yesterday I went to a monthly breakfast with a bunch of retired friends I worked with in nuclear security. (About as close to the military as you can get in civilian life.) Of the 6 there (there are about 20 different folks that show up at various times), all of us were 'Nam vets - Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force. Different services in different locations with different jobs, but one commonality - we were there. We don't need conversation starters among ourselves. However, occasionally one of the civilians with us will ask about something we're talking about. Conversation starter and educational tool at the same time. The vast majority of us don't need to blow our own horns, but it is also our responsibility to make sure our time in history is better understood not forgotten.

There was a discussion awhile back about the Bronze Star Medal.
I've been recommended for 3, received 2, 1 for Valor.
My Grandfather earns a BSM for his service in WWII. I sometimes think about the stuff I did to earn my medals and compare that to Band of Brothers type of movies and ask myself, did I stack up?
That's a conversation starter for you right there, some of the highly decorated individuals I've met will tell me they were in the wrong place at the wrong time, or they were just doing their jobs.

MSG David Johnson - What is the point? I don't even get why you are commenting on my comment. I am busy living my life and you should get on with living yours. Life is in the future, history is in the past. Leave history to the historians and get on with what comes next.

I think you took my comment wrong from how I meant it, I was using myself as an example only.
If you took it as a disrespectful comment I apologize, it was not meant as such.
It's one of the drawbacks of messaging, the inflection and tone of voice don't come through. If you still have an issue, please IM me so we can discuss it.
