What the Hell is wrong with people ??? 1st we are told we cant have open prayer before we go out side the wire, then Chaplains are tossed out of the Military, Pledge of Allegiance  is done away with, but its ok for muslims to wear headdresses, grow beards in the military, still do prayer in the military and can enter this country and military even though they are illegal??? Where does this bullshit end???

I believe no absolute religion should be taught in school at all. A philosophy class which has bits and pieces from religions I do support.

I am a firm believer SSgt (Join to see) that spirituality of any kind is a very personal journey. The tenets that one believes are between that individual and the god, gods, goddesses, golden twinkie, or whatever else they choose to see, or choose not to see as the divine. I do not think this is something that can be taught. Not only in school, but in the home either. Spirituality even among people of the same religion is going to be different between individuals, even within the same household. As a school they have an obligation to stay out of religion altogether. As parents we have an obligation to provide guidance to raise our children to be morally strong people. We gain strength through diversity. The caveat is that it has to be in a respectful environment. If a Christian wants their faith respected by a Muslim, then that Christian needs to show the same respect to Islam. That doesn't mean that they have to agree with it. It means that they need to respect that different people have different ways of looking at the divine. Again, this has nothing to do with public school. It is my opinion that the school should teach the students that the five pillars of Islam exist. If the student (regardless of faith) wants to find out more information, then they can find that out on their own. The same is true of any faith. When I was in High School, we studied the bible as literature. We read several books of the bible, but only for their literary value. Their was no religious discussion at all. It was all about characters, plot, events, etc... I found it to be very interesting. It was more interesting when that was contrasted with reading Greek and Norse god stories in the same vein. A lot can be learned about a culture by reading their religious tenets. If it is done from an objective stand point. Right now in this nation, I think we have far too much religious tension to be objective, and therefore we should leave these items out of the curriculum until things cool off in society as a whole.

Cpl James Waycasie - I concur with you. I am glad you did not include Hindus because with the rise to power of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India the persecution of Christians has increased in certain areas of India.

Cpl James Waycasie - I respectfully disagree.
Religion has been used to justify some horrible acts throughout history. From human sacrifice to forced conversion, it seems that there is no one faith that has a corner on zealotry. I think that the problem comes more in the mob mentality than the actions of one or two people. Once people get into a group, there is a tendency to stop thinking as an individual. There is a tendency to follow the crowd regardless of where that crowd is going. I have seen that people have the capacity for both great acts of compassion, and terrible acts of aggression. It depends on the moral compass. The moral compass is a combination of current environment, personal ethics, spiritual beliefs, education, information, and upbringing. Unfortunately, the moral compass is replaced by mob mentality in large groups.

PO3 Steven Sherrill - I am talking about true Christians as a whole can live peacefully with others. Sure there are exceptions to the rule such as WestBrook Baptist church demonstrating against the government by picketing at Military personnel funerals. They caused chaos, division, and confusion. They should have protested at their Senator's. House of Reps, or even at the white house. I agree with their stand on a lot of issues, but their improper way of taking that stand was wrong and viewed by both Christians and non Christians as an improper way for Christians to conduct themselves.
1Co 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
1Co 14:40 Let all things be done decently and in order.
Yes over history, man has perverted many religions and caused a great deal of blood shed in the name of what ever god for their own advancement in life. But as a whole, true Christians can live peacefully with anyone. God will judge people not us.

I think it's good to learn about all religions from a historical stand point. Who made it up, basic beliefs, significant events, things that had a impact on history. Christianity should have Jesus, His beliefs, the start of the Popes, Rome, Martin Luther, Crusades, inquisition. Not try to convert anyone just teach the basics. Islam should be the same way, Mohammad, beliefs, the crusades again, differences between Sunnis and the rest. If you have to write down the five pillars Maybe write down the 10 commandments. Religion has had huge impact on all of our history.

Separation of Church and State, unless it applies to the Islam religion. Three weeks used in our school, 7th grade studying Islam. Far more than any other. Lots of protests, but the indoctrination continues.

We are in bad situation in our Nation we ignore our enemies by allowing them to live in our communities. We are at war. Cultural Jihad is invading our schools and Government. They learned this from the Nazi's in the 1930. Once they have our children. They will have our Nation
