With the recent amount of stolen valor it is hard to keep up with all the different threads being posted here on RallyPoint. From this point forward if you have a stolen valor question, comment, and or post, then add it here. The posts that currently exist will stay, as we don't want to lose the already existing discussion content. If you have started a stolen valor post prior to this and wish to have it merged to this one then feel free to let me know and I will merge that for you. The initial post will be gone but the discussion content will be merged to this posting.

The Original Poser – 1SG(P) Steve Jordan
Around a year ago someone tipped us off to the now infamous 1SG(P) Steve Jordan. We worked with our friends in outing this obvious poser. For those not familiar with "Top" - you can come at him on his Facebook fanpage or at his FetLife account. It appears that Steve Jordan has been playing make…

SGT Glenn, I'll see what I can do. (Maybe... I like the conversation while the participants are civil...but they aren't always.)

There must be a punishment, but I don't think the civilian courts will ever take it seriously.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
I.e., who cares?
I was on Funeral detail out of Fort Jackson when I came across a “Soldier” wearing a horribly put together pair of ASU’s. I knew that he was either a screwed up Soldier or a fake. So I did what any NCO should’ve done, I told him out jacked up his uniform was and how he needed to fix it. I didn’t film him, or attempt to call out how pathetic he is and I didn’t question his general military knowledge either. Instead I let him wear the outfit he had on and proceeded to render the honors to his relative. Was he a Soldier (?)…probably not since his beard and sloppy appearance suggested he wasn’t. But who cares? What is he gaining from it, 10% off at Denny’s? Again who cares? If the establishment wants to give a discount to SM’s, then ask for an ID. If you don’t and you give it to someone else that is your fault. Is he degrading the Armed Forces, well maybe, but so do hundreds of SM’s that are actually in and can’t get uniforms right.
It doesn’t take much for people to get offended these days. SM’s and Veterans should probably look at these imposters as what they are, someone who holds their position in such high regard that they fake their lives to imitate them.
My service was mine. I hold that in high regards and know everything I did was for something. Someone faking service would never steal that from me.
Finally, I look at it this way. If someone wants to claim to fast rope off a C130 flying low, while carrying a wounded Bradley fighting vehicle on their back. Let them. Because there are just as many people who did serve telling just as many tales of their heroics that might be slightly exaggerated. In the end it just makes the military look like even bigger ‘Bad @$$3$’ and it makes them look like a hero to whomever will listen.

Note my joking tall tale is my Xbox, that was stolen out of a containter during transport back from Afghanistan, contributed to the death of Bin Laden. Just saying It probably made him really lazy playing rockband so much.

While recovering from the on the spot correction a "after action review" with the perpetrator might be helpful so that they understand that your act of kindness is not shared by all of your friends.

I can't put my finger as to why but for some reason it just bothers me to see people do it.

Prosecute. Make it permanent part of their record - along the same lines of a bad conduct discharge - to follow them the rest of their lives.

Cpl (Join to see). Yes . . . stolen valor should be a punishable offense . . . perhaps on par with major fraud and identity theft . . . but as much as we feel for long lost brothers and sisters . . . taking matters into our own hands may risk major legal penalties. Warmest Regards, Sandy
