What common uniform violation really just gets to you?

Every service member is guilty from time to time of violating their branches respective uniform policy. The one that really gets me for some reason is when a top is too short. I can't stand seeing Soldiers walk around in tiny tops.

This isn't exactly a violation of AR 670-1, as far as I know, but certainly frosts my hide.... I cant stand seeing Soldiers with a go-zillion pens stuffed into their ACU/OCP pen pockets. I'm all for having a pen. But I've seen scores of Soldiers running around with two (2) pens stuffed into one slot..... Oh my goodness! It's like their "Office Depot Qualification Badge." lol!

The pen pockets are my least favorite design feature. I've lost way too many pens from them sliding out or from snagging and snapping off the clip. I've been tempted to put two into one hole, but never into all of them. I've resorted to using an oversized pen with a rubber grip on the middle pocket to keep the other nicer two in place.

My own self imposed policy was I never had a pen in a place where it was even could even be seen by others. I always had a pen but kept it out of sight. At one point that pretty much had been the policy anyway and I always followed it.

Seniors performing a uniform inspection and not wearing the uniform being inspected. I'm sorry but if you're going to require your juniors to wear the uniform for an inspection you should be wearing the same uniform. I know they aren't required to do so but it just shows that you are ready for an inspection yourself.

I climbed out of the HET to ground guide while on base in Kuwait, and switched from helmet to soft cap, and standing right there was the training NCO in civvies going nuts that I took off my helmet

All of the time, I see (or maybe saw, maybe the USAF has tightened up on uniform regs), airmen going to the Walmart in town. Seeing as how Whiteman AFB is like an hour away, I would just stand there and fume at those guys busting some rules. Or not. Maybe the USAF thought that the peeps would get more recognition, if they allowed thie gals and guys to wear their working uniforms so far away from home, going in to buy beer and stuff.

What regulation would that be? Any uniform can be worn. Now if your specific unit or base has a policy, that's completely different.

Cpl George Crab There isn't a regualtion that governs this. Soldiers, lower or senior can wear their uniforms off base. Does it look professional? Probably. However, its not violating any regulations. If the base or unit has an written and established policy in place, then that's a different story. Remember, you can always add to but not take away.

The one that use to bother me the most was being off post and seeing a soldier in uniform pants without a blouse on. While in Walmart BK , Denny's Ect. To me that was totally unacceptable.

Back when I was in uniform? Any kind of metal on the bottom of the combat boot. Some older CSM's would do that. I am not sure if it was to preserve the rubber on the heal so they would not have to buy boots as often or to produce the irritating clack, clack, clack when they walked on linoleum......only a few did it in the 1980's and since I was not in the habbit of correcting a CSM as a lowly SPC.........had to cringe and live with it.

They are called hobnails and heel rims. They were used to add traction and durability to the sole of a boot. I think the last time the US issued boots with hobnails was just after the Korean War and I'm guessing those CSMs were wearing them because they were "old school".

Believe it or not, that is authorized. PT uniforms may be mixed and matched and worn off base.

Trivial I know, but it drives me crazy to no end when I see a male Soldier wearing earings. I mean even to the point that if I see a picture of a Soldier wearing earings on social media, I get mad. Kills me when its an NCO of some sort, because I get the impression that they feel above the regulation.

I can't stand that either. I was attending some training and an E8 used himself coming onbase in civilian clothes riding a Harley, looking like he was in a motorcycle gang AND wearing an earing. His question was how would I judge him. My response was that I would have been shocked that an E8 would even think to come on base wearing an earing. Back then earings weren't allowed on base in civilian clothes.

I wouldn't call it an official "uniform violation" but I can't stand it when soldiers are wearing mis-matching tops and bottoms (Like a brand new ACU top and super old and dirty bottoms) and most common is when soldiers have horribly frayed and crooked Velcro name-tapes. A lot of soldiers wash their uniforms with the name tapes on out of laziness and it makes them look warped and absolutely awful. These new uniforms are even worse when it comes to this as the Velcro is much weaker. Just sew them on already!

Agreed! In the field I understand, things come back weird from the field laundry or your trousers get dirtier than the top, etc. But in garrison, come on, you should have been able to tell those did not match. Also, if it's so gross it does not match the other uniforms you need to relegate it to field time only!

It was one of the reasons why I sew-on my names tapes. Can't stand then they all other the place, or even worse - falling off. It's just few $$ to do that and you look way more profesional.
I always put numbers or signs on my uniforms when I get them, so they dirty or clean at the same level.
