There are a ton of great songs about military life, that reference the military in some way; some of the more modern works may have a video associated with it, and some of the older classics continue to define the military experience to this day. From country to rock, ballads & pop, to more traditional flavors--did a particular song inspire, educate, or simply strike a chord with you? Please feel free to share any inspiring military-related music, any music or songs that makes you think of/or reminds you of your military service, as well as any links, photos, descriptions or anything that helps you tell your story. The idea here is to have a fun and thought provoking discussion, which will be fun, informative, and provide a means to tell our stories... and to learn about one another as well as our sister services in the process. Wishing you all the best, I look forward to hearing from you, and interacting with you all in the threads!

Thank you Adam!   I agree with MAJ Burns, it is a great song and I never heard it before!  I am not a big fan of country music, but country music out of all variations of music are I guess you can say put out the best Patriotic music!  I am an old country boy, but I love my 70's Rock!  :-)

I swear I posted this last night, but maybe rallypoint didn't like it so they deleted it.  I'll give it a try again.

I'm Already There by Lonestar.  This song may not have been written for the military, but several people have turned it into a military tribute on youtube.  This particular version is my favorite and it's still gives me chills every time I hear it because it hits me so hard.  No other song has ever generated this type of emotion for me, and it's a song I will never forget.

MSG Stankovich, great choice with a solid Parris Island honorable mention at the beginning... classic Billy Joel, a great song that should bring back some memories for many RallyPointers, thanks for sharing!

Also not really a "military" song, but I've always liked Battle Hymn of the Republic.  I agree with most of the others posted here as well.

SSG, technically speaking, that song could be considered a military song since it was published during the Civil War.

<p>Although this may not be a military-specific song, it's certainly&nbsp;worth sharing for many reasons, this song and iconic performance display pure musical genius; never one like him before, and there'll never be one like him again, the one, the only: The "Star Spangled Banner" performed live by Jimi Hendrix</p><p>&nbsp;</p><div class="pta-link-card"><div class="pta-link-card-picture"><img src="http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/uOGww5Dyq7Y/maxresdefault.jpg?feature=og"></div><div class="pta-link-card-content"><div class="pta-link-card-title"><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOGww5Dyq7Y" target="_blank">Jimi Hendrix - Live - "Star Spangled Banner"- Woodstock 1969</a></div><div class="pta-link-card-description"> </div></div><div style="clear: both;"></div><div class="pta-box-hide"><i class="icon-remove"></i></div></div>

LTC, that was a great version. I would say that the best rendition of the Star Spangled Banner was done by Whitney Houston before the start of Super Bowl 25.

This has long been my favorite "Military Song," but it really hit home as we were leaving Thailand. &nbsp;One of our Crew members had been killed while on liberty ashore and we held a memorial service on the flight deck of a Knox Class Frigate as we steamed out of port. &nbsp;As the assembled crew sang the Navy Hymn, it was driven home why this is a Navy and Marine favorite.<div><br></div><div><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 22px; font-weight: bold;">Eternal Father: The Navy Hymn</span></div><div><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 22px; font-weight: bold;"><br></span></div><div><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">Eternal Father, strong to save,</span><br style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,</span><br style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep,&nbsp;</span><br style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">Its own appointed limits keep.</span><br style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;"><br style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">Oh hear us when we cry to Thee,</span><br style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;"><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;">For those in peril on the sea! CSM Poll, well said, and I definitely agree, as much of my early time in the military was spent in ceremonial details, this song resonates, as well as brings back many memories of our fallen and those who pay a final tribute to their life, their unselfish service, and to the family that supported them. This song means so much to so many, it is hard to fully describe with words alone, thank you for sharing your thoughts. V/r mwb http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn_iz8z2AGw
