I am surprised that Sen Boxer was not accompanied by some security. I recall going to Jack London Square in downtown Oakland, CA with nary a concern. ABar there was built with sloping floors to resemble a ship like PO1 William "Chip" Nagel probably served on. LTC Stephen C. I like that the police came (wonder what the response time was?) and also the $2,000 reward. The average citizen would be lucky if the police even showed up and most likely they would be told to come to the station to do a report, but good luck getting any actual investigation.

Yep, it was just a push and grab. They'd never show up for that. No injuries, perp is no longer present, never going to happen. Oh wait, you are a US Senator, we will be there in 5.

I don't think she's part of the AOC faction that wants to get rid of all the corrections. That is a black lives matter talking point.

Actually she is one of the few California lawmakers who had a concealed carry permit. Amazing somehow she got one but most can’t. It’s kind of like New York State where the people who usually have them are somehow politically connected.

MAJ (Join to see) - Depends on the county, but I pulled the data once, and the county I live in had issued all of FOUR permits for the millions and millions that make up the total population. Shasta County is the place to be for CCW permits. Sacramento County, Placer County, are pretty good as well. LA, SF, or the Silicon Valley, it isn't going to happen.

I have long held the belief that we are NEVER as safe as we'd like to think we are. That's why I have made certain things a habit, and avoid making habits of things that increase my risk. That said, I do believe it is obvious we're experiencing a whole new level of instability and insecurity globally. We imitate the ostrich at our peril.

Yep, the best action is to "not walk down that dark alley". Keep your head on a swivel.

CPT (Join to see) - Excellent advice. I'd add to it that in today's world, the suburban shopping center, house of worship, and workplace are hardly any more "secure". I believe 65% of the risk can be mitigated by being observant and intentional about our choices... 30% comes down to application of training... the remaining 5% is about having the correct items with you to deal with conceivable emergencies. One of the first gifts I gave my wife was a "go bag", suited to her individual needs. That got "upgraded" when we had a child. People like to talk about the "cool" gear, but often forget the simple things... like a light source, clothing to confront the elements, and alternate means of communicating.
