Where were you when you turned 18 years old? How long after that did you join the military? |...

When I turned 18 in October 1974 while I was living at home in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania just outside of Philadelphia where I was born. A couple weeks later I went to the local Army recruiting station and talked to a recruiter. I don't remember the exact sequence but I signed a delayed entry enlistment contract for 12B Combat Engineer training. If I completed the training I would get a bonus of $2,500 which was a lot of money at the time.

SGT (Join to see) I can't remember the details, but he was trying to find a way of smoking in his room on the barracks, I guess walking a few feet outta his door is too hard on his lungs.
