SGT (Join to see) I had to laugh when I read the opening line of the Washington Post article "It only took seven years, but middle-class incomes are finally rising again, and nothing President-elect Donald Trump does will change that." Under POTUS Obama my income went from 6 figures to 0 when the Affordable Care Act was rolled out. Many 50+ people I know fell into the same situation.
While President's certainly do not deserve credit for increased general income, their fiscal and tax policies can definitely impact gross income and net income.
As a businessman Donald Trump faced many ride awakenings over the decades as business deals didn't work out as expected, bankruptcies, etc.
He was beaten up by the media, his Republican and Democrat competitors for over a year s they went after him and to a lesser extent his wife and children.
Like any incoming President he will face a culture shock. However, his shock will be much less than Barack Obama's since he was a darling of the media.
Donald Trump's greatest strength seems to be in selecting great advisors which will bode him well - since that is part and parcel of what a President must do to manage domestic and international affairs and crisis.
Thanks for mentioning me SMSgt Minister Gerald A. "Doc" Thomas

I am going to keep this as non political as I can but I feel very strongly on this item. The Federal Government would not have to set a wage base for white collar workers in the lower skilled trades if it had control of immigration via the H1b VISA process. The market would raise the salaries as it did before we opened the gates wide open to H1b VISA holders. I have seen both regimes in IT and I want to see a return to the former from the current. As I get older I am finding it more and more difficult to compete with someone fresh off the boat from Asia willing to lowball their billable rates or salary. So are IT Consulting firms, the last IT consulting firm I was with just abandoned entire business lines of consulting because it could not compete in the American market with established Asian firms with one programmer in the U.S. earning near U.S. rates and three others back in Asia supporting him being paid sub par salaries. Having said that I have nothing against Asians........it's our stupid government that is allowing this to happen. Is the same happening in say Germany? Nope. Why? because they have stricter immigration controls and employer monitoring than we do. The IT jobs in Germany are higher paying as a result. Will I be forced to leave the United States for Germany at some point to find an IT job that pays well?

Also, look at the sheer number of folks fresh off the boat landing a business franchise (another loophole in our immigration policy). Is that fair to Americans wanting to start their own business? Lets see I can immigrate from Dubai where there is no income tax after saving a huge chunk of money and because I have that large chunk of money and buy a business franchise I get preferential treatment with U.S. Immigration. Shouldn't we define small businesses a little better than just adding another Subway Franchise? Do we really need more Subway jobs? Wouldn't we rather have new jobs in manufacturing or some leading technical field over a new Subway franchise? Yup thats our immigation policy being abused your seeing in part with the high proliferation of cheap food franchises.

we have H1B visas because we don't have enough Americans who CAN do the jobs. I worked in SIlicon Valley for 20 years and most of my co-workers had H1B visas. generally speaking, they were better than most American applicants. I have also been a college professor for a dozen or so years. My college students, generally speaking, are abysmallly ignorant. It never ceases to amaze me how much they DO NOT KNOW. We need H1B visa worker to remain competitive.

Sgt Wayne Wood - Depends on where you are and what the Salary being offered is. I know in and around Chicago there is a proliferation of IT workers but most companies there use the cheaper H1b VISA holders. When you see IT Departments almost 100% Asian, pretty good indicator they are abusing the system. They are supposed to post the job on a public bulletin board in the company area where employees gather first. Have you looked at some of those postings?, if not I suggest you do. If your not seeing such postings your company is probably circumventing the legal rules of the program or is posting them elsewhere (Internet?). I have seen some Silicon Valley Firms on the internet post asking salaries less than what I would get paid in Dallas (cost of living is lower here) so I fully expect some are abusing the H1b program in Silicon Valley.

I am going to simply say this, to both parties. Wanting the president to fail because you lost, is like praying the pilot crashes the plane you're on because you don't like him.
