Thanks for sharing significant events of February 13 Maj Marty Hogan
To me the most significant was "1945: WW - II Allied aircraft begin bombing Dresden. The Allied air war against Germany begins as hundreds of British bombers loaded with incendiaries and high-explosive bombs descend on Dresden, a historic city located in eastern Germany.'
It was horribly ironic that a city renowned for its porcelain production which requires double or triple firing to produce fine china was itself fire-bombed. The incendiary bombs created large fires which created suction that sucked the air from many inhabitants of Dresden, Hamburg, Tokyo, and the other fire bombed cities. Total war broke the will of the Germans to fight at a cost to the Germans and those who inflicted it on them.

The Dresden bombing, accomplished over a 3 night campaign, caused many more deaths than the atomic bombings of Japan. German civilians died by the score in bomb shelters & basements from asphyxiation. The incendiary campaign has always been controversial but we must place it in the context of defeating a power which murdered tens of millions of people. In the case of Dresden,. American air power was right.

COL Mikel J. Burroughs - Developed a small leak over the winter. I rode less than 1,000 miles last year. I was out of the country, working long shirts prepping for an inspection, and doing several sustainment training exercises. Hoping this year slows down some, but shaping up the same way.
