I just watched this movie and while Ive read stories like this before, I am saddened that rape and sexual abuse is allowed, and I do believe allowed to happen in our military. No women or man should be be forced against their will and even more so in the military where we are supposed to protect each other. The movie is heartbreaking. While their are many facts presented in the movie, two that stand out are 15% of people entering the military have indicated that they have committed or attempted rape which is twice the civilian average and women who have been raped are raped suffer from PTSD at twice the rate of soldiers who have experienced combat. Thanks SFC William Farrell for letting us know that you watched this documentary movie The Invisible War. I concur with you that it is sad that the producers/director seemed to think that including rape and sexual abuse was necessary for documentary on our military involvement in Southwest Asia. Since the "facts" presented were based on a survey instead of quizzing every body who served, I would take the purported statistics with a large grain of salt.
1. "15% of people entering the military have indicated that they have committed or attempted rape which is twice the civilian average" and [military service members can me more honest than the average civilian with no military experience. Therefore I would suspect this "finding."
2 "women who have been raped are raped suffer from PTSD at twice the rate of soldiers who have experienced combat." [I think the VA might have more accurate statistics on this issue.

LTC Stephen F. It was not a war movie Colonel, it was a documentary about the epidemic of rape and sexual trauma in the military. If you haven't seen it, I would suggest you take the time to watch it. According to the 2015 Department of Defense Annual Report on Sexual Assault in the military, there were 6083 reports of sexual assault involving military members. Keep in mind that many service members both female and male may not report assaults for fear of retaliation or other command influence. This is unacceptable at any number as far as I am concerned.

LTC Stephen F. - Anytime Steve. The thing bothers me, both in the military and in the civilian world. I have worked with men who definitely took advantage of women and that is what I saw on the outside. I was not part of their lives beyond the school environment where I taught.

While tragic and no service member should have to ensure that type of pain. I have one question..of all the 500k reports, how many are legitimate. Now I am not marginalizing this issue, I am just saying I have seen service members get themselves into situations and cry the 4 letter word to save face..ultimately what is the real number?

SSG Steven Mangus While I do believe there are some false reports out there, I am more than willing to bet a good majority of them are legitimate. Regardless, one rape is too many.
