Well the Federal Victory on the battlefield was followed by reconstruction which was bitterly fought out in Congress between those who wanted to destroy the southern way of life and capability to self sustain themselves versus those who wanted to rebuild the union and offer an olive branch.SPC Erich Guenther
It took a long time for the wounds to heal within divided families, towns, counties, and states. Over time military reunions were held and eventually both sides participated.
At major battlefields such as Gettysburg, monuments were erected by both North and South commemorating the three-day battle and recording the names of those whos served and died there.
I strongly support maintaining and preserving the Civil War Battlefields and the monuments to those who fought and died there.

SPC Erich Guenther: One of the lies recently constructed by some in an effort to tear our country apart is that anyone who doesn't want to remove Confederate statues hates black people and further forment racial division. Professor Dalleck has picked that package up, and just ran that ball for another first down. LTC Stephen F.

Maj William W. 'Bill' Price - Here you go, erected just a few years ago by a group that says "Heritage not Hate" but really wants to stir up racial violence.

Now I hope that demographically you can look at what region of Texas WAS FOR THE CIVIL WAR and then DRAW A CONCLUSION ON WHY THIS MONUMENT IS IN EAST TEXAS.

SPC Erich Guenther Interesting Alinsky-ite change of subject. The article originally cited suggested concern regarding monuments erected on public grounds between 1880 and 1920, not private property. But I'll play. Please provide dates and locations of the racial violence caused by the construction of this memorial. LTC Stephen F.

Maj William W. 'Bill' Price - OK, so the first item was adequately covered by the article above. Instead of researching your playing games with dates with the other poster indicating you really don't give a crap about finding the truth but would rather argue semantics. How about you look at the example of the memorial erected in East Texas. Then GOOGLE Stone Mountain in Georgia and look into it's history. Oh gee! Stone Mountain was erected on Private Property as well by none other than the KKK. Oh look! It became public property when the State of Georgia purchased it in 1958. Now I really wish I could say that was one exception to the rule but instead it is a pattern. There is your example, you also don't have to look far to see the racial strife stirred up by the Stone Mountain memorial. And please also refresh my memory, why am I doing this research for an adult that knows how to Google?

I wish I had the superpower that so many people claim to have now that enables them to read people's minds and KNOW what a flag or symbol means to other people.
