I am also curious to know who else transitioned to tech and product management. What did people find the most useful from their previous military experience when they transitioned to the product management? COL Mikel J. Burroughs anyone in your network who can chime in?

I never was in the tech or product management field, but I was in the Senior Management field of the service industry and I truly believe that my military leadership experience played a huge roll in that.

Product management? I'm not sure. Project management? Military experience is an excellent foundation for that. The military virtually invented project management. Gantt's first effort at scientific management was ignored until WWI and the US used it to assemble its expeditionary force and deploy it to Europe. When members of that army entered the civilian work force they brought their knowledge of scientific management with them and that's how it was introduced to the civilian world. Since that time, almost every major advance in scientific management has been a collaborative effort between civilian and military project managers.
