Let justice prevail in this case TSgt Joe C.. If USMC Staff Sgts. Matthew Bacchus and Jose Lucena-Martinez and Sgt. Riley Gress are guilty of violating of a lawful general order and making false official statements; and/or Bacchus and Gress are found guilty on the charges of cruelty and maltreatment in the death of recruit Raheel Siddiqui, then I hope they are convicted and received the stiffest sentence possible from the Special Court Martial.
Being tough and demanding on trainees is the duty of drill instructors and rill sergeants. Being cruel
and deliberately mistreating in terms of UCMJ's standards is inexcusable for any drill instructor.
I still have scars on my chin from doing cut-aways as group punishment on the asphalt in 1974 at Fort Leonard Wood [cut-away front leaning rest to parade rest so as to bounce off your chin].
If on the other hand this is a cover-up to limit damage I hope that each and everyone responsible in the chain-of-command is charged and convicted.
