I need help for a Veteran that is beyond my capacity...

We have a Veteran, that is currently on our Hardship Waiting List. He called me this morning, his words were, "Terry I give up, I must be one of those that just falls through the cracks. I can't even get a job as a janitor." This brings me to chills and tears. This is a 19 year US Navy Vet, how can our men and women say such words, how have we failed so horribly?

Russell, like so many, tried to do it right, he got his associates degree in IT, he worked numerous contracts and yet was still burned with the same old low end certification crap that these training companies pitch to our heroes. The result, 10 years of one dead end job after another. Its now finally added up to him feeling that he is at a dead end.

Character, this man moved, adjusted his life to come home and support his father in his final months. Now he is supporting his mother in hers. And yet, he was out applying at McDonald's and Walmart for cashier and janitor positions this morning. He is not at the welfare office, he is not asking for a free ride. He called to tell me he really appreciated what I was trying to do for him but he didn't want to be a burden to me or my business.

Russell is special to me, in many ways he was an fundamental part of me kicking off this program. 18 months ago, long before I started what we do today, I offered a scholarship for a single IT course. I named this after DT, a brother of mine from the TACP days that has a story that makes me weep. You can watch his video below. His tenacity to never give up motivated me to do something. I met Russell then and gave him the scholarship. Unfortunately his situation made it where he didn't even have the necessary laptop and internet connection to do the program.

Today, I now have connections I didn't have then. So in the past two hours I have re-written his resume and sent it over to both him and several recruiting companies that are jumping into action. He literally has to go up to the unemployment office to be able to read the resume I sent him because he doesn't have internet access and is currently on a government cell phone that can't check email. I will get him a job, failure is not an option for me. I have put him in the program already and he will be working on that if I can figure out a way to get him on his feet.

This is where I need the help. We're not talking about a lot. $66 for internet and phone connection per month, some gas money to get to the interviews and start the job, etc. He will probably have to drive an hour to go to Oklahoma City which is 40 miles from him. He needs a way to have someone to be able to check in on his mother. This man needs less money to get a break than most of us spend on vacation. I simply don't have the connections in those spaces or the money to give to him myself, I have poured everything I have into starting this company and growing it. As a matter of fact in the past week we have launched fundraiser campaigns to take on investments to help us grow, I wish people would instead just help him. We can figure out how to grow on our own. Right now there is a brother that is getting left behind and that is not acceptable.

I am willing to let someone have training for free or anything else I can trade for helping him.

We always talk about millions of Vets unemployed, 22 suicides a day, etc. these numbers are meaningless if all we do is reference them. What matters is there is one Vet, his name is Russell, that needs our help today! We can fix his situation with little effort. If you can offer help, funds, services anything I will owe you and I always pay more than what I owe for a favor. At the least I can follow DT's now coined phrase, "no matter what never fucking give up" this I can do for Russell.
