Looks legit to me, the FFG or PC they are replacing are not able to fire such a capable Surface to Surface missile. The Hellfire is a tried and tested weapons system and an example of how the LCS platform can leverage current technology to provide distributed leathality. Also notice the RAM launcher another tried and tested missile defense system. Ok, waiting for all the LCS haters. Questions from a submarine sailor. What battle space is the LCS intended for? Is this vessel superior to existing modern war ships in service, ours and “theirs. How reliable are they?

CWO3 Dennis M. MCPO Roger Collins The battlespace, as I saw it when I was working on the CS portion years ago, was to have the LCS cover missions and roles that other ships are doing. These missions can be anywhere, really, but what it does is free up these other ships to do missions only they can do. Kinda like you don't need a Ferrari to get to work everyday, when a Honda will do... Hope that makes sense!

LCDR (Join to see) I am no LCS hater, just the opposite! My background as a STO on a SM-2 Nuke Cruiser and Combat Systems Officer at an Aegis Facility was always with the state-of-the-art weapons systems! In my wildest dreams I could not imagine a ship capable of firing an air to surface Hellfire missile!! Wow! I am very impressed!

LCDR (Join to see) - Bill The SYS-2 was not in use when I retired in 1990 and we didn't get to play with it at the CSEDS in Moorestown NJ.. I think it deployed in 2000? So, I can't speak to it. From what I heard about it, it is very good, but I personally don't know? It is a bitch being a dinosaur!

CWO3 Dennis M. - LOL, I got to experience it on the USS MISSISSIPPI then went to an Aegis Destroyer after that. While you have the disadvantage of rotating radars the 48 seemed to offer a more robust ability to overcome environmental effects.

LCDR (Join to see) - The 48 has always been a great radar, I remember its predecessor too, the old 30 radar, looked like a dish with a canon!
