Thank you for sharing a link to a very thoughtful post my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell I concur with the assessment of Marcus Luttrell.

As a former teenage destructive-vandal, I think this youth could be turned around to benefit both himself and society. Good mentors in this young man's life could do a world of good for him and others in his situation IMHO.

"Marcus Luttrell, who fought alongside Murphy and wrote about the experience in the best selling book “Lone Survivor,” does not want the [ 14-year-old boy who vandalized a war memorial commemorating fallen Navy Seal and Medal of Honor awardee Lieutenant Michael Murphy] to go to jail.
“You can send him out here to me and I’ll put him to work and show him what kind of man Mike was,” Luttrell said. “We all make mistakes and we push past them.”
Luttrell is absolutely right. The boy deserves a chance at redemption and what better way than have a veteran mentor him.
I was fortunate enough to have great parents and grow up in a community that looked out for my well-being. Many influencers in my life were veterans and they taught me the values of loyalty, duty, and honor.
They inspired me to serve my country — defending the nation as a soldier, educating the next generation as a teacher, and supporting my fellow veterans as a civil servant. Because of the dwindling veteran population, I fear future generations will not be exposed to veterans’ powerful stories.
Today’s youth deserve to listen and learn from our veterans.
Unfortunately, the viciousness on social media is still there with individuals still calling for the accused boy to receive jail time or even a beating. The growing military-civilian divide in this country will continue to grow if veterans stick to the negativity and tribal nature found on social media.
We need more citizens, especially veterans, who are willing to step up and do something rather than tweet about their gripes and outrage like the countless critics on social media. How can we bridge the growing military-civilian divide?
I believe it best done through education. Veterans need to share their stories of service and sacrifice with America's youth in our schools. And there are many ways to do this.
Troops to Teachers provides financial support and counseling services to help veterans secure teaching positions in our nation’s schools. Nonprofit organizations such as The Mission Continues and Travis Manion Foundation recruit veterans to perform volunteer work in local schools and help mentor at-risk youth."

I think the governor of New York has already indicated that the state would replace the memorial. As for education in our public school systems, that seems like a pipe dream with the political climate and the generally liberal mindset of the teachers in these various systems today.

I think what this meant to say, was that "The taxpayers of NY will replace the memorial at their expense and the punk will not have to pay for the many years he should.)

If he can't pay, his parents need to pony up the cash.
