Wow my friend LTC Greg Henning this seems to be too-broad a bill IMHO.
On the one hand I concur with the sentiment expressed by the author of the bill “Our K-12 school teachers should not be using their classroom time spent on political or ideological indoctrination. Doing so takes time away from instruction in the academic foundation subjects of mathematics, science, English, history, and civics, and prevents our students from receiving a high-quality public education for careers in the global, high-tech economy.”

I could potentially agree with a bill that prohibits endorsing or berating current and recent elected officials and candidates for public office including issues they stand on in a school setting. The restrictions should apply to both teachers and students.
1. I would hope that schools still teach government in terms of constitutional authority, structure, types of legislative bodies in this nation and especially the structure of Pennsylvania state and local government.
2. I would also hope that court cases could be discussed in the constitutional framework such as Marbury vs Madison, Dread Scott, and other significant cases as well as the impetus for the amendments to the constitution beginning with the bill of rights.

Agree 100%, but from experiences related by my grandson who graduated 2017 and took AP classes, most of that doesn't happen in schools in Florida. They receive very elementary exposure to civics as we remember it from our school days.

You have it right. Teach government and how it is supposed to work. Teach your obligations as a citizen. Stay away from endorsing candidates or encouraging bad behavior toward anyone.

There needs to be schooling in this area, Politics....As long as the teacher teaches and doesn't try and force his or her political opinions on the students...At an impressionable age.

Civics is a good thing and should replace some of the junk courses, but I have serious reservations about this from the article. When it happened in our school system, I complained to the School Director. Civics yes, indoctrination from an authority figure, unequivocal no.

“The bill would effectively prevent teachers from bringing any type of personal political ideology into the classroom, including the endorsement of or opposition to political candidates.”
