Taiwan has already built the ultimate defense. They have positioned themselves as the ultimate supplier of computer chips that power everything from smart phones to fighter jets and military satellites. Are we prepared to allow that industry to fall into the hands of our enemies? (No, we can't produce our own.)

Exactly and frankly PRC uses those chips as well. Danger to Taiwan today doesn't come close to the levels seen in the 50s, but some like to overreact.

I've no idea of the commitments/agreements made after WWII when Taiwan came into being, but I do know that they stood up to more severe threats in the 50s than we begin to see today. Perhaps those preaching doom over Taiwan should study history.

Our 2 China Policy went fuzzy in 1979. We have no defense treaty since then.

The CCP People’s Liberation Army is not the same as the PLA was in the 1950s. You are right about what they faced and what we could do to defend them with a 1950’s post WWII military. That is no longer the case … read the book “Kill Chain” to gain a better understanding of what we and the Taiwan military will face when the CCP makes its move.

Well I doubt the Biden administration would try to enact an upgraded treaty with Taiwan, my friend Lt Col Charlie Brown It would be refreshing if Australia took the lead with Japan, Vietnam, India, and the Philippines supporting capacities.
India could certainly threaten China from the south.
