Students’ scores in DoD schools among highest in the nation, report says

PO1 Tony Holland If I may brag! Science Hill High School (where I teach), Johnson City, Tennessee was number one in the state of Tennessee in Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II on End of Course Exams administered by the State. In English I, II, & III we were in the top ten. I don't remember the exact standings since I only teach math. And Biology we were also in the top 10 in the state. We have a couple perfect scores on ACT's each year and dozens of ACT scores of at least 30. The ACT is required by the state and we don't do SAT so I have no data on that.

Congrats DOD schools on your performance! That says a lot about the teachers they have and their dedication to teaching our youth.

In the late 70's my high school near fort Riley was selected along with 24 other schools across the nation to study the effects of military life on the child dependents. My HS was 90% dependents of active, retired and former military. Took surveys and interviews. The expectation was they would find maladjusted children. They were shocked to find the friendliest, most out going, self disciplined and self motivated kids. My high school the year I graduated had 7 perfect scores on SAT/ACT. Out of a graduating class of 355. This was old system where HS was grades 10-12 and junior high was 7-9 and elementary was K-6. So not shocked that DOD Schools performed this well.

I was a substitute teacher at the DOD schools on board Camp LeJeune and I can attest to their high standards! My friend was a Special Education Specialist and the lengths the school went to ensure every student was receiving all the services they needed
