One Seattle cop said a sergeant told her she “looked yummy” in front of other officers.
Another, with a child at home, said she wasn’t promoted because she couldn’t work the night shift, since her kid would be alone.
A third woman recalled a clique of male cops who never invited the lone woman from their graveyard shift to 5 a.m. breakfast, leaving her to patrol the streets on her own. “She’d be the one babysitting the city,” the woman said.

Three things. In the first anecdote the Petty Officer cited, what the Sergeant said was wrong but not proof of a 'good old boys' club.
The second anecdote is also not proof of that club. She made the choice to work shifts amenable to her family situation which limited her opportunities for promotion. Also not proof of a club excluding her and other female officers. Men make the same choice all the time without complaint. I did it and never looked back. Family comes first.
Last anecdote. Perhaps the female Officer wasn't liked by the others on her shift? Perhaps they perceived her as an officer who would take issue with things said at the table? Perhaps she was new to the shift and had to prove she was a good fit withthe rest of them? Who knows?

The comments about looking yummy and leaving one to patrol alone are unsat in every way. However, I understand the nightshift not getting promoted when everyone else has to do it. We do it in the military, you have to work you make arrangements somehow...If you are a single parent and the bell goes off you got to have a plan in place for your children to be cared for...when you don't it leaves everyone else in the lurch to pick up their extra share of night shifts, including other single female officers or those that don't have children...that is not equitable and is directly related to duty perfomance and demands of the job. But the other two and the blatant discrimination folks heads should roll.

I agree with the exception about the breakfast invite. You don't get to tell people who they can befriend or choose to spend lunch with. Perhaps they could have invited her? Perhaps the others had spent years together and it's just how they can spend a few moments with friends and take stock of the day?
I wonder if the officer asked if she could join? I'll bet she didn't. It's a shame the others didn't invite her. Perhaps they were looking to avoid issues of impropriety?

LTC Trent Klug - My thing withthe breakfast wasn't she wa not invited but they left her alone on patrol with no immediate backup on the street. But yes, she probably didn't ask to join either.
