It would have been foolish if the majority of airstrikes in October and November were supporting Iraqi and Kurdish forces' effort to retake the strategically key city of Mosul from ISIL, since there is a lot else going on in Iraq and Syria SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL
For instance I was glad to read last week of a series of successful strikes against ISIL's old production and distribution assets. Attacking ISIL's ability to finance its operations and recruitment is strategically important.
Attacking their ability to send, sustain and communicate with ISIL operatives and sleeper cells is something that needs careful planning and interdiction.
There are many heads of the ISIL hydra which are all poisonous. Some are vulnerable to direct ground combat, others to air attack, others to cyber attack, etc.
I am always in favor of ground-support air-operations by the A-10 Warthog in Iraq, Afghanistan and wherever else required.
