Army identifies Alaska-based soldier found dead by police

A soldier assigned to Fort Wainwright, Alaska, was found dead early Wednesday in Fairbanks, officials said.

Pfc. Thomas Carl Snyder III, 21, was found by Fairbanks police about 2 a.m. Officials said they do not suspect foul play.

Snyder, of Finksburg, Maryland, joined the Army in April 2015. He trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, before arriving at Fort Wainwright in August 2015. He was an infantry scout assigned to the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

The circumstances of Snyder's death are under investigation.
