That is an interesting idea SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL to create a combat readiness test for troops already in the ranks.
Since we don't know where or when the next major conflict will occur I would expect the test should include aspects of mountainous requirements; swamp and river cross requirements as well as sandy and thick undergrowth requirements at a minimum. The ranger school phases could provide some reasonable ideas for developing a reasonable well-rounded test.

Negative, the standards would not include different terrains as that would mean costly transport of folks all over BFE and back. Expect that this would executed at the soldiers home station where ever that might be so they are already acclimatized. You also won't see a test a tough as the Rangers Course. You are looking to get a good measurement of combat strength related tasks, not push them to complete mental and physical exhaustion. Semper Fi.

MGySgt James Forward - Fort Benning, GA is within 2 hours or so of mountains and swamps and close to rivers. Fort Benning would be a great place to conduct a combat readiness test. Many soldiers and others service members come to Benning for Jump school, pathfinder, etc. SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL
Disclaimer: Fort Benning is home of the infantry and I spent a lot of time there both being trained and training soldiers.

SFC Joe S. Davis Jr., MSM, DSL Isn't that the basic idea, an Army that is good to go? Some artillery rounds do weigh more than 75 pounds!

If implemented properly, this will improve our fighting force. A question that comes to mind when I read all of the proposed changes to ensure Soldiers are capable of meeting physical readiness standards: will the APFT continue to have separate standards for men and women? In all fairness, it should be one standard for ALL. For so long, if a male and female completed the same number of repetitions of P/U, S/U and 2 mile time, the female's APFT score would be so much higher. I don't see how that has ever helped increase unit readiness or unit morale.

The APFT and/or the CFT is not about "Unit Moral". For the USMC CFT to get a perfect score:
Male
Age Group 880-Yard Run Ammo Lifts Maneuver Under Fire
17-26 2:45 91 2:14
Female
Age Group 880-Yard Run Ammo Lifts Maneuver Under Fire
17-26 3:23 60 3:01
I don't think we have many females that could meet the Male requirement; that is why they have a different threshold. Scoring them all the same on a PFT or CFT would be relegating the females to the overall majority of the low scores. If men and women are physical equals (which we know is not probable) why do we have separate Olympic events for Men and another for women? This old Master Gunny can not run as fast as the slowest Female Marine....Semper Fi.
