Great article. Thanks for posting it. I love hearings stories about the other Allied nations in WWII besides the English and Americans. Too often we forget that many other nations fought with us against the Germans, Italians, and Japanese.

Breaking German codes real reason for 1942 Dieppe raid: historian
New research suggests the real intent of the historic raid on Dieppe in 1942 was to steal a machine that would help crack top-secret German codes.

SMSgt Thor Merich - yeah lots of stories from Canada you really don't hear about much and since the Canadians were in this since September 1939. We don't hear much about it but England sent their children to Canada or sent them to the English Countryside.
I once read a story and one of your military magazines about an American that was mobilized in 1941 he was in the Army Reserve or National Guard and he went AWOL and he went to Canada to join their Royal Canadian Air Force. He ended up getting trained in Alberta Canada where I live now and he ended up flying anti-submarine Warfare missions and B-24 liberators in the North Atlantic area looking for U-boats. When The War ended ,he move to British Columbia got married but a few years later he decided to turn himself in to the American authorities. After spending a month in a stockade as a deserter, he was released by the Military judge after the Canadian military records he requested showed that he ended up becoming like a bomber Pilot and attained the rank of Captain and the RCAF flying I forget how many missions in enemy Waters. The only condition they said he would be released from being absent without leave or deserting is that he forgo any of his back pay. He said yes LOL.
So if I find this story I will post it but it was one of those wow guy got bored with doing drill and ceremony and decided to go do something in this is what you know six months before Pearl Harbor. True story. Believe It or Not, The American and Canadian social security agencies and their Veteran's Administrations are linked because you've had Canadians went to fight for the US forces and Americans went to fight for the Canadian Forces.
