Who would have thought that the Western Allies would have been able to supply that city for that long. It also speaks volumes about the American people. The Germans had been the enemy in not just one but two world wars within 50 years of the Airlift, yet the American people gave and gave to those in need. By and Large Americans are the most generous people in the world. Our military responds first and longest in humanitarian causes. I have studied Germany in the Occupation Period and was stationed there twice. The German people that were alive during that time have never forgotten the aid, and assistance of the American People. This is one reason that God Blessed America.

I live in Canada, SSG, and I did not know that Canada once had 10k troops stationed there too. The Marshall plan helped a great deal and the Civil Affairs Branch (military government) was formed as a result of the chaos at the end of WW2. Patton got it right to use the Nazi to get the sewage, water, electricity, academics and trash issues taken care of.

LTC (Join to see) - The most cooperative people are the ones that feel that the military in their area is responsive to their needs and cares about their condition. I worked Civil Affairs/Civil-Military Operations in Korea. The Korean people were great once they realized that we were there to help with Maneuver Damage and the like. It is an old adage that you can not conquer a people that do not want to be conquered. I am not saying that we are trying to conquer anyone, but we do try to win their support and friendship. That cooperation, support and friendship comes a whole lot easier when you have a history of helping more than you destroy, caring more than you ignore. The best allies grow from the best friends.
