Thanks for reminding us TSgt Joe C. that on April 29, 1916 British General Sir Charles Townshend surrendered on April 29, 1916 to besieging Turkish and German forces at the town of Kut-al-Amara, on the Tigris River in the Basra province of Mesopotamia. The 13,000 soldiers had been besieged for 5 months before they surrendered.
I am thankful that my paternal grandfather Ford [pictured] who served at Gallipoli as a British Army lance corporal was in France by 1916.
