Thank you, my friend CW5 Jack Cardwell for sharing the music video of Johnny Cash performing "Cocaine Blues"
"Cocaine Blues" written by T.J. Red Arnall
Lyrics
"Early one mornin' while makin' the rounds
I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down
I went right home and I went to bed
I stuck that lovin' .44 beneath my head
Got up next mornin' and I grabbed that gun
Took a shot of cocaine and away I run
Made a good run but I run too slow
They overtook me down in Juarez, Mexico
Late in the hot joints takin' the pills
In walked the sheriff from Jericho Hill
He said Willy Lee your name is not Jack Brown
You're the dirty hack that shot your woman down
Said yes, oh yes my name is Willy Lee
If you've got a warrant just a-read it to me
Shot her down because she made me sore
I thought I was her daddy but she had five more
When I was arrested I was dressed in black
They put me on a train and they took me back
Had no friend for to go my bail
They slapped my dried up carcass in that county jail
Got up next morning about a half past nine
I spied the sheriff coming down the line
Talked and he coughed as he cleared his throat
He said, "Come on you dirty hack into that district court"
Into the courtroom my trial began
Where I was handled by twelve honest men
Just before the jury started out
I saw that little judge commence to look about
In about five minutes in walked the man
Holding the verdict in his right hand
The verdict read in the first degree
I hollered, "Lordy, Lordy, have mercy on me"
The judge he smiled as he picked up his pen
99 years in the Folsom pen
99 years underneath that ground
I can't forget the day I shot that bad bitch down
Come on you've gotta listen unto me
Lay off that whiskey and let that cocaine be"

Cocaine was made "a little bit country", "a little bit rock and roll" only the way Johnny Cash could.

When I was at Travis I had this song in my collection with other J. Cash hits. I didn’t play it while in Barracks.. I’d be somewhere else and play it.. I didn’t need our SJWs knocking the 1SGTs door down wanting to know why didn’t SSGT have to go give a urine sample like we did for our drug related music and paraphanalia .(I.e.:posters). Our 1st was down on on thst stuff.. So to avoid publicity i didn’t Play it. Willie Nelson was another I didn’t play.. it kinda sucked to not play it in Barracks because it might bring unwarranted attention onto myself..
We had a Squadron Picnic and I brought Some Willie, David Alan Coe(she never called me by my name) and some other tapes. The Cmdr heard them and he kept his thought to himself.. He didn’t ask .. hmmm? What’s up with that? He didn’t need to ! Our SJWs in the Sqdn took care of it ! Whose music was it?...
nobody was saying.. There were several that liked C&W.. Ok.. so how about this ;
All you C&W loving people to show your fairness.... show up at drug/Alchohol clinic and contribute a sample in the next few weeks. ! we C&W fans got together and plotted to all show at the same time and jam them up with samples.. we got some
Friends outside the Squadron to show up..
We had over 300 samples jamming that lab crew.. it didn’t take long before they realized they been had ... bad part was is there were some false positives.. those came from _____ can’t say! Somebody had put poppyseeds in one of the salads..
I was fortunate and mine was negative..
so I was able to PCS that fall(‘76)..
