The Navajo Code Talkers have recently been honored by President Trump. This article is an excellent short history about them.

Commenting on the Marines’ Iwo Jima landing, Major Howard Conner, the Fifth Marine Division’s Signal Officer, said that “The entire operation was directed by Navajo code. . . . During the two days that followed the initial landings I had six Navajo radio nets working around the clock. . . . They sent and received over 800 messages without an error. Were it not for the Navajo Code Talkers, the Marines never would have taken Iwo Jima.”

Interesting that one of the Talkers passed up an opportunity to slam DT when asked about the comments, reportedly said he was puzzled but not offended by the references to Pochantas during the ceremony. He also reportedly stated the Marines made him hollar 'Geronimo' when he parachuted, and that he was not offended by that either.

The Navajo Code Talkers, Our Heroes
This was shown in the House of Representatives at the Arizona State Capital during the Navajo Code Talker Monument dedication on Feb 28, 2008.
Thanks SGT (Join to see) for reminding us that the WWII Navajo Code Talkers have recently been honored by President Trump.
The background on this activity has been fascinating to many as communicating in a language with no written alphabet was used by the Marines Corps in the Pacific island hopping campaigns of WWII. The Japanese were never able to break this code - they put bounties as a reward for capturing any of the Navajo Code Talkers.
This was shown in the House of Representatives at the Arizona State Capital during the Navajo Code Talker Monument dedication on Feb 28, 2008.
